Cambridge, MA – The lives of six West Hollywood lesbians collide in an earthquake of meddling, one-night stands, folk music and potato chips in Ilene A. Fischer’s new comedy Girl Hopping, with original music by Kirsten Opstad, directed by Mark Sickler at Oberon, 2 Arrow Street, Cambridge, MA, October 3, 4 and 10, 2011.  This hilarious world-premiere comedy, and debut production for Sugar Cereal Productions, looks at the lives of a small group of friends as they navigate one-night stands, exes, the 101 and an obsessive folk singer.  Can six women in one zip code get a Hollywood ending even though they live west of N. Labrea Ave.?   Tickets are available online atwww.cluboberon.com

The cast of Girl Hopping features two-time IRNE winner Shana Dirik*, along with Gillian Mackay-SmithCassandra MeyerCaroline PriceShannon Roberts, and Elise Weiner Wulff.  The design team includes Michael Clark Wonson (Lighting Design), Maureen Sergei Festa (Costume Design) and Robin Gabrielli (Sound Design).

Fischer is a playwright, screenwriter and media industry veteran living in Arlington.  Somerville based Opstad is a current main stage performer with Improv Asylum and front woman for the local band Crazy Exes from Hell. Both artists credit their improv training for their ability to work together so easily.  “When she contacted me about collaborating, she was just beginning the rewrite process.  As Courtney (the folk-singing character) developed, we talked about the kind of songs she’d sing, what kind of playing style she had, and how the songs would fit into the play as a whole”, says Opstad.  Fischer adds, “The challenge was for her to write really good bad songs, while managing to skew the lesbian folk singer stereotype.”
