To the Greater Boston Theater Community:

I cannot explain it, but I have had the most difficult time writing this letter to you. As I sit at my computer to write a letter asking for your support of StageSource, I keep thinking about other important issues facing us today. I witness at home the requests I receive from important organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association, Human Rights Campaign, Public Television and Public Radio. I think, how can tiny StageSource compete with these behemoths of exalted and noble stature?

But the more I think about it, the more I think we are not just "tiny" StageSource. We are not just five individuals working in a corner office tucked away in an old church building in Boston. We are 250 theatre, film, casting and related companies throughout New England. We are the 57 theatres on the Circle of Friends card. We are the 34 theatres of the Theatre Arts Marketing Alliance. We are every photographer, tax attorney, casting company, teacher and acting coach, and venue that posts every week on the ENewsletter. We are the actress who came into the office last week to have us scan her headshot and upload her resume to the database. We are the hundreds of actors who visit our office each year to read a script before an audition. We are the 227 production and admin job seekers that came to REPA Job Expo last year. We are the over 500 actors that auditioned for over 50 theatres in June. We are the Greater Boston theatre community. Perhaps you might say we are the George Bailey of Boston Theatre.

I am hopeful that you recognize yourself in us and understand that we are essential to the intricate and vibrant life of Boston theatre. Like Mr. Bailey of Bedford Falls, sometimes we need a little help. So, if you feel compelled this season and recognize a little bit of you in us, I hope you will also consider helping StageSource. As a non-profit support organization, we are not able to provide much visibility to sponsors, so we rely on our friends to help us.  Membership dues cover only 63% of all StageSource expenses - meaning we need to earn another 37% from other sources.  Even a little donation such as $10 from every one of our 2000 members will make a dramatic difference and ensure the continuation of the services you have come to value.  All donations are tax-deductible, and donating has never been easier - https://www.stagesource.org/pages/159_online_donor_form.cfm. Or if you prefer to donate over the phone, call (617) 720-6066 or send a check to StageSource, 88 Tremont Street, Suite 714, Boston, MA 02108.

I still say give to those organizations that continue to do good work for people all over the country, or world. But also, maybe this year you can remember George Bailey, and give a little something to StageSource, too.

Thank you for your time and consideration – from all of us here at StageSource.
