JOHN BERESFORD FOUNDATION BENEFIT

Cabaret Stars To Celebrate Life of John Beresford
Cabaret performer, actor and activist was murdered in 2005

BOSTON  (April 13, 2006) -- A singular evening of song and dance, “Forest for the Trees” will be presented at the Cutler Majestic Theatre on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. This performance celebrates the life and work of the late John Beresford, marking the anniversary of his murder and the unveiling of the John Beresford Foundation, Inc.

This one-night-only cabaret style production features nationally renowned performers including Ernie Lijoi, Gordon Michaels, Michelle Currie, Cassandra Marsh, Carolyn Rogers, Daniel Arico, Carol O'Shaughnessy, along with many others (including the farewell performance of Miss Vera Rose), and features Boston Dance Company, under the music direction of Tim Evans with Michael Kreutz.

The show's artistic director, founder-director of the Boston Dance Company James Reardon, promises “a dynamic, once-in-a-lifetime evening of popular show tunes, from heart songs and ballads to belters and show stoppers. Boston is buzzing that this is the show that's not to be missed this year.”

City officials will be present to announce Mayor Thomas M. Menino's proclamation that May 17 be named John Beresford Day in the City of Boston.

Government leaders, community activists, members of the arts and gay communities, and friends and family of the late John Beresford are expected to attend. [A list of notables scheduled to attend will be available prior to May 17.]

John Beresford was murdered on May 10, 2005, steps outside Ronan Park near his home in Dorchester, when coming to the aid of his partner and another neighbor who had just been mugged.  This murder stole from Boston an ever-cheerful community activist, HIV-AIDS fundraiser, actor, cabaret performer, and an enchanted Santa who could sign with deaf children.

Tickets for “Forest for the Trees” are on sale at the box office, through www.maj.org, Telecharge (1-800-233-3123), or via www.JohnBeresfordFoundation.org
