BOSTON, April 25— City Stage Co. of Boston has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in the “Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth” category. The grant will support City Stage programs in 2 Boston Public Schools located in the South End: McKinley Elementary serves students with serious emotional, behavioral and learning needs and El Centro del Cardenal Alternative High School gives students an opportunity to earn credits towards a Boston Public Schools diploma while providing a bilingual alternative educational setting. City Stage Co. Artist/Educators will use theater techniques in the classroom to assist students in the exploration and comprehension of both poetry and fiction.
City Stage Co. received a 2005 Elliot Norton Award from the Boston Theater Critics Association for “thirty years of inspiring children and families to make discoveries about themselves through theater.” The company offers professional traveling theater productions for family audiences, intensive arts education instruction for urban youth, during school as well as through community-based out-of-school programs and imaginative exhibits and programs for museums nationwide, including KidStage at Boston Children's Museum.
