HARWICH JUNIOR THEATRE SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT

Live, quality productions have made Harwich Junior Theatre and Harwich Winter Theatre widely respected for audiences of all ages. HJT’s repertoire includes plays that will enchant the youngest child and plays that will guide adolescents in their transition to adulthood. Harwich Junior Theatre produces fairytales, adventures, classical, musical and contemporary drama for children and family audiences. Harwich Winter Theatre produces a more mature repertoire for young adults and adult audiences.
THE LEAR PROJECT- Fri, Sat. Sept 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8PM Sunday Sept 16 and 23 at 4 PM Text by William Shakespeare; adapted and directed by Andrea Arden. Theatre Lila and HJT collaborate in a stunning, gender bending Lear, starring Florence Phillips in the title role. School matinees on Wednesdays Sept 19 and 26 at 9:30 AM and 12 Noon.
GIANT WOMEN Friday and Saturday evening Sept. 28, 29 at 8 pm a one-woman play by Christine Rathbun, is a follow-up to her acclaimed 2004 show Reconstruction, or How I Learned to Pay Attention. It is one woman’s -- maybe every woman’s – honest, funny, and ongoing story of relationships.. It’s a very personal journey, but one every woman can relate to, and laugh about. Christine is a writer and performer living in Sandwich. Both GIANT WOMEN and her play, Reconstruction, a memoir about breast cancer were named Mass Cultural Council Grant finalist.
A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING, October 26 – November 25.Friday, Saturdays at 8P, Sundays at 2p with. Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein; revue created by Walter Bobbie. This Tony nominated musical revue takes the audience on a musical journey through some of the greatest songs in Broadway history. A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING traces the arc of romance from courtship to cold feet through marriage, commitment and into family, children, and mature love. Directed by Richard J. Sullivan, Musical Direction by Robert Wilder, Choreography by Terry Norgeot. School matinees on Nov 7 and 14 at 9:30 am.
A Christmas Carol- December 13-30 Thursday – Saturday 7:30, Sundays at 2PM Charles Dickens’ beloved classic adapted by Rob Zapple. It's the 1930's, Its Christmas in America - people are out of work, out of luck, and some, out of hope. A lost gathering of homeless souls await an uncertain future on a cold St. Louis December eve - when them magic of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" changes their lives. An aging Shakespearean actor and a "Woody Guthrie" styled narrator bring the timeless message of Ebenezer Scrooge's story of redemption into the hopeless world of the American Depression, mirroring Dickens London, of the 1840's. This "true to the novel" telling of the visitation of the Ghosts of Scrooge's, Past, Present and Future, features live music, dancing, favorite Christmas carols, laughter tears and warm Wassail for the audience. Come, live the tradition and rejoice with Tiny Tim's cheer to the season, "God bless us, everyone!" School matinees on Dec 18 and 19 at 9:30 am.
HARRIET THE SPY February 15 – March 9. Based on the book by Louise Fitzhugh Adaptation by Leslie Brody. Directed by Mary Arnault. Harriet M. Welsch is a spy, but she’s no ordinary spy. This eleven-year-old isn’t spying on her neighbors to be nosy, to be mean, or even to help the government. Nope...she’s just an aspiring writer who believes keeping track of everything she sees and thinks is good practice for her burgeoning career. However, when someone gets a hold of her notebook, they think her antics are anything but harmless.
LITTLE WOMEN, The Musical March 28 – April 27 Music by Jason Howland, Lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, Book by Allan Knee. Based on Louisa May Alcott's own family experiences (and novel), LITTLE WOMEN, follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America. The beloved story of the March sisters is timeless and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written. Now, this wonderful narrative has been brought to life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart. LITTLE WOMEN embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears, and a lifting of the spirit. THE GOOD DOCTOR May 9- June 1 A classic comedy by Neil Simon and directed by Albert T. Viola. Broadway’s master of comedy weaves the hilarious stories by Anton Chekhov into a laugh-out loud vaudeville experience complete with ridiculously slapstick satire farce humor. A cross between the Mad Show and Saturday Night Live!
