BUSINESS AND THE ARTS – A CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP
Kennison Staffing and the Boston Theatre Community
(September 13, 2007, Boston, MA) - Andrea Lyman has been acting for decades, having appeared on New York and Boston stages, shooting films and commercials, and appearing in soap operas. For a theatre production or film shoot, Lyman might be working for 6 to 8 weeks at a given time and then have a week off before her next acting job. In between acting gigs, Andrea has found a unique way to earn a living: with a temporary office placement position. For over the last 20 years, Danny Bolton has been fortunate to work as an actor on stage in Boston, New York and on national tours and in corporate videos but has also worked for a variety of clients in temporary placements, from architecture firms to financial services companies to universities.
Thanks to Kennison Staffing, which has established a unique place in the corporate community by partnering with StageSource, The Greater Boston Theatre Alliance, Andrea and Danny are regularly placed at different jobs in between being on stage or in front of a camera. Andrea appreciates the opportunity and flexibility, “It is great to have work in between gigs. I am rarely available for more than a few days at a time so I tend to work in a temporary job for a few days a month.” Danny concurs, “Kennison has been, by far, the most proactive and understanding of my needs as an actor first along with being a temporary worker, so it really has been a ‘win-win’ situation.”
Since 2001, Kennison has demonstrated significant civic responsibility and leadership by providing corporate sponsorship to StageSource which provides support services to over 2000 individual theatre artists and over 250 theatre, film, casting and related organizations. In exchange, Kennison Staffing has developed access to a significant resource of personnel to provide temporary and direct hire placement services to Greater Boston companies, both large and small. Kennison and StageSource recognized the opportunity to pair theatre artists who are between jobs with companies seeking quality, skilled professionals. Moreover, in a time when businesses, private foundations and individuals are reducing support in many areas, Kennison has maintained its full corporate sponsorship for the last seven years.
“Another year has gone by, and we continue our wonderful alliance with StageSource,” reports Jane Kennison, President and founder of Kennison Staffing. “The staff referred to us by StageSource help us grow our business by being such a strong part of our organization.”
“When I talk about the partnership between Kennison and StageSource, everyone always has the ‘a-ha’ moment. Actors that need work in between acting jobs and a temporary placement agency that seeks employees. It is a no brainer,” states StageSource Executive Director Jeff Poulos. “StageSource’s over 2000 theatre artists are reliable, qualified members of the work force. It makes sense that Kennison wants to support people and organizations that contribute in a meaningful way. I am thrilled that Kennison has continued to demonstrate corporate citizenship in such a meaningful way. Kennison has certainly proved itself as a role model for other companies to follow.”
