THOM KAUFFMAN
Thomas M. Kauffman is the Production Manager of Citi Performing Arts Center where he oversees the technical and production process for the 3600 seat Wang Theatre and the 1600 seat Shubert Theatre. One of the nation's foremost nonprofit performing arts institutions, Citi Center presents international touring companies in theater, music, dance, and opera, as well a regional organizations such as the Boston Ballet and Boston Lyric Opera. Through CPAC, Thom has served as Production Manager for the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s productions of Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream attended by nearly 40,000 patrons annually on the Boston Common.
Since relocating to New England in 1991, Thom has stage managed more than 50 LORT theatre productions, working with directors Mary Zimmerman, Robert Woodruff, Adrian Hall, Dominique Serrand, Michael Greif, Brian Kulick, David Wheeler, Carey Perloff, Oskar Eustis, Richard Jenkins, Evan Yionoulis, Kyle Donnelly, Michael Bloom, Leonard Foglia, and Marion McClinton. At the Huntington Theatre Company, Thom’s 18 productions include Mary Stuart (Elliot Norton Award for Best Production), The Real Thing, The Amen Corner, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Burn This, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Gross Indecency, Ah, Wilderness!, and Cabaret Verboten. For the American Repertory Theatre he stage managed The Miser (Elliot Norton Award for Best Production), Othello, The Doctor's Dilemma, and the world premiere of The Sound of a Voice by Philip Glass. He has also stage managed A Celtic Christmas at the Cutler Majestic Theatre produced by WGBH. He also served as Production Manager for Boston’s 25th Anniversary Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Wilbur Theatre.
Previously, Thom was the Resident Stage Manager at the Trinity Repertory Company for six years where his credits include acclaimed productions of Angels in America, The Miser, and The Glass Menagerie starring Olympia Dukakis. Other regional theatre credits include Williamstown Theatre Festival, New York Stage & Film, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Missouri Repertory Theatre, Sante Fe Stage, co-productions with the Goodman Theater and American Conservatory Theatre, and the United States tour of Sir Peter Hall's As You Like It. From 1983-1991 he was Resident Stage Manager and Production Manager of the Pennsylvania Stage Company where he stage managed 27 LORT productions..
From 1998-2007, Thom was on the faculty of the Boston University School of Theatre Arts, teaching and chairing the B.F.A. stage management program. He currently serves on the Board of Friends of the SpeakEasy Stage Company. He has been a proud member of Actor’s Equity for 25 years. He lives in Newton with his partner, director Scott Edmiston.
