SHAKESPEARE & COMPANY 2008-2009 SEASON

Shakespeare & Company Announces 2008-2009 Season

Here's a quick look at what's coming for 2008-2009.

Borrowing from Othello, we're planning a season of Conjuration and Mighty Magic. The calendar will be available in mid-December, and tickets will go on sale in January. Keep in touch with our website for all the details, and make plans to experience and share the spirit of transformative theatre.

It all starts in Founders' Theatre in late May with The Ladies Man. Based on a George Feydeau farce, it kicks off programming on three different stages that will run through February of 2009.

Construction begins soon on our new Production Arts Center and Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre, to open in the summer of 2008. Look forward to an exciting variety of classic and new works on that stage.

On the Rose Footprint, you can see The Mad Pirate and The Mermaid, an original family show with nonstop romping, clowning, hi-jinx and music.Tina Packer and Jason Asprey in Hamlet, Shakespeare & Company. Photo by Kevin Sprague.

And our National tour of Hamlet will be coming to theatres everywhere in 2008 and 2009. Watch your local schedules for when and where.

Tickets to all events go on sale in mid-January. So come back soon, and get ready for:

Othello
by William Shakespeare
The masterpiece of love, racism and betrayal that's as startling and timely today as when it was written over 400 years ago.

All's Well That Ends Well
by William Shakespeare
A festive comedy that never tires in the re-telling, about a virgin bride and the bedtime tricks she has to resort to make her husband fall in love with her. An almost adult comedy!

The Ladies Man
by Charles Morey
The regional debut of a hilarious adaptation of a George Feydeau farce about a husband whose ever loving wife mistakenly suspects him of infidelity. It has the mother-in-law of all subplots.

The Goat Woman of Memphis
by Christine Whitley
A world premiere of a compelling and chilling look at a modern American family. It's the secrets we share that keep us together.

The Cantervillle Ghost
by Irina Brook
Adapted from Oscar Wilde's very comical and lively tale of a transplanted American family living in a haunted English mansion and the gruesome ghost who grows on them.

Bad Dates
by Theresa Rebek
Featuring audience favorite Elizabeth Aspenlieder, it's the story of a single mother who's ready for romance. Wear the right shoes, keep your sense of style and self-balance no matter what life throws at you, and you could fall love.

At the always free Bankside, on the Rose Footprint stage:

The Mad Pirate and The Mermaid
by Michael Burnet
An original family-friendly show about an awesomely magical mermaid captured by a crew of goofy and raucous pirates, with nonstop romping, zaniness and moments of rollicking music.
