SITE BITES TIP #8 COMCAST AND ENEWS

StageSource ENEWS recipients who use COMCAST as their email provider:

For some time, StageSource has been experiencing some challenges with the delivery of ENewsletters to Comcast subscribers. We have learned that StageSource is not alone as Comcast is blocking e-mail from many bulk mail servers around the country. (A recent article in Direct Magazine helps explain the Comcast situation more in depth http://directmag.com/magilla/trouble_comcast_0205/index.html).

StageSource has been working with our ENews email provider Synthenet to permanently resolve the blocking of your emails by Comcast. However, in the past Synthenet has been removed from Comcast's "black-list" only to be put back on by Comcast's automatic process again. Neither StageSource nor Synthenet have control over the situation. However, we will continue to work with Synthenet to ensure that you receive your emails.

You, the Comcast subscriber have some options:

1) First, you can call Comcast and let them know you are concerned. You pay a membership to StageSource to receive emails every week and if Comcast is blocking these emails, you should let them know. You can report that StageSource is working with provider Synthenet who in turn is working with Comcast, but you want to also officially speak up to ensure that Comcast is aware of and working on the situation. Ask Comcast to stop black-listing Synthenet and messages from listserv [at] stagesource.org. Comcast has said that they respond to customer complaints. (A Comcast representative in the article above says "The way I tell if it's a big broad problem is I'll get escalations [complaints, reports, etc], and we're not seeing that.")  You may reach Comcast's Customer Service department at 1-800-COMCAST (1-800-266-2278).

2) If you have an alternative e-mail address through another provider, you can change your Email address on our website under MY ACCOUNT. See StageSource SiteBites Tips on how to update your account: http://www.stagesource.org/pages/16681_site_bites_tip_7_update_your_account.cfm
Or contact us, and we will change your account to a different email address.
Free email accounts exist through providers such as Gmail or Yahoo, and although we recognize that this is not ideal (having two different email accounts might be too confusing), we just wanted to let you know that this is an option.

3) If you MISS a week of receiving the ENewsletter, you can find all of our messages archived in the member-only sections of the site. For information on how to access the ENews archives, see our SiteBites Tip on ENewsletters:  http://www.stagesource.org/pages/15255_site_bites_tip_2_e_newsletters.cfm

In the meantime, we will continue to try to work with Synthenet and Comcast to resolve this on a permanent basis. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Your friends at StageSource,

Dawn, Jeremy, Maureen and Jeff
