Class descriptions

Yoga Warm-Up: Full body warm up for all skill levels.   A lead series of stretches to get your body limber and ready for the day.

Freeing the Natural Voice: This vocal workout will cover the complete progression of voice exercises developed by Kristin Linklater. An ideal class for anyone who has learned the voice progression in the past and would like a refresher, or for a beginner who wants to be led through a challenging and invigorating voice workout. This session will focus on relaxation, connection to breath, releasing jaw, tongue, and throat tensions, building resonance throughout one’s range, increased breath capacity and freedom in articulation.

Advanced Movement: An intensive exploration of movement and improvisation. A variety of improvisatory approaches are employed to tap into individual creativity and to discover the power of group creation. Physical demands increase as the body is emphasized as the instrument of communication. The work includes exploration of space, energy, dynamics, rhythm, and sensory response. Actors learn to channel their physical and emotional energy into dramatic action.

Exploring the Depth and Breadth of Monologue Preparation: In a full-bodied, personal exploration of your monologue, this class will experiment with the process of uncovering deeper, richer connections to material.  Using self, imagination, the body and the full journey of the text, we will explore material as a group and individually.  Please come prepared with a monologue you know well.

Michael Chekhov: Michael Chekhov's psycho-physical approach to acting will be explored during our sessions. We will be working with Chekhov's four qualities of movement (molding, floating, flying and radiating), archetypal body centers and psychological gesture, and apply these approaches to text. Please bring a short monologue to use for in-class exploration (and wear loose fitting clothes suitable for movement.)
