 ABOUT “THE SUPERHEROINE MONOLOGUES”

What do you get when you put Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Storm, Lois Lane, Batgirl, Dark Phoenix, and Catwoman on the same stage? An ass-whooping evening of theatre!

Company One and Phoenix Theatre Artists are thrilled to combine forces this April to bring Boston a unique and exciting world premiere - The Superheroine Monologues: A Parody of Super Proportions. Based on an idea by Phoenix Theatre Artists’ artistic director Greg Maraio, the play is written by two of Boston’s most talented playwrights, Rick Park and John Kuntz.

Touching, funny and campy, SUPERHEROINES is an action-packed parody, which travels through the decades. Beginning in the 1940s, the play is a glimpse into the life of each heroine set against the backdrop of women’s evolving role in society. You already know that they can stop speeding bullets, control the weather, and scratch your eyes out, but these dynamic divas promise to answer all the questions you never dreamed to ask. A portion of proceeds will be donated to a Boston-based women’s shelter.

ABOUT THE CAST

SUPERHEROINES features an incredible cast of Boston’s most talented actresses.

Shawna O’Brien, last seen in Phoenix’s The Memory of Water, takes on the role of the very first superheroine, Wonder Woman.

Stage veteran Maureen Adduci, last seen in Phoenix’s Love-Lies-Bleeding and The Kentucky Cycle portrays Wonder Woman’s mother, the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta.

Amanda Good Hennessey
, cast of the award-winning Kentucky Cycle and The Memory of Water, slips into the stockings of Superman’s one true love, Lois Lane.

Elizabeth Brunette, cast of the award-winning Stuff Happens and The Memory of Water slinks onto the stage as America’s most beloved burglar, the Catwoman.

Playing the part of the Batgirl is Melissa Baroni, who was part of Phoenix’s inaugural show, Dancing at Lughnasa as well as The Kentucky Cycle.

Cheryl D. Singleton, who was last seen in the Seagull with the A.R.T., portrays Storm, the first African American superheroine.

Having worked with Phoenix Theatre, and Zeitgeist Stage Company in numerous award-winning productions such as The Kentucky Cycle and Stuff Happens, Christine Power will join the cast as the omnipotent Dark Phoenix.

A newcomer to the Boston theatre scene and recent BC graduate, Jacqueline McCoy dons the cape of the man of steel’s cousin, Supergirl.

Rounding out this cast of extraordinary women is a trio of male ensemble members; Terrence Haddad, Jordan Harrison, and Art Hennessey will portray numerous roles in our journey from the 1940’s to today.
