About the Company:
The Actors' Shakespeare Project (www.actorsshakespeareproject.org) was founded in 2004 by Benjamin Evett and 13 actor-colleagues. Their intention is to create a resident acting company in Boston to produce Shakespeare in intimate productions that celebrate the relationships between actors, audience and text. As an itinerant company, ASP’s productions are often the centerpiece of larger community projects, including Incarcerated Youth At Play, NEA’s Shakespeare in the Communities school-based programs, and partnerships with neighbor organizations. ASP’s first production was Richard III, performed at the Old South Meeting House in October of 2004. Since then they have produced 19 plays in venues all over Boston, Somerville, Dorchester and Cambridge as well as in New York City. In 2008, Terry Teachout, of The Wall Street Journal, wrote “Go to Cambridge and see one of America’s finest Shakespeare troupes.” Jeremy McCarter of New York Magazine called ASP’s King Lear “A triumph of classical acting.” The company is led by Artistic Director Benjamin Evett and Executive Producer Sara Stackhouse. The resident company members include Bill Barclay, Jason Bowen, Benjamin Evett, Jennie Israel, John Kuntz, Paula Langton, Doug Lockwood, Marya Lowry, Sarah Newhouse, Paula Plum, Richard Snee, Bobbie Steinbach, Adele Nadine Traub, Michael Forden Walker, and Robert Walsh.
