As a continuation of our Line Drawn Initiative work, StageSource in developing programming and resources to create safe work spaces, and prevent harassment in the New England Theatre Community.
This workshop for actors and stage mangers is designed to give people skills to intervene in uncomfortable, inappropriate, or abusive situations. IMPACT Boston instructors will portray realistic scenarios so that participants can practice staying calm, poised and strong in the moment of threat or intimidation. The workshop will also include opportunities to discuss a wide range of strategies and interventions. This workshop is specifically for actors and stage managers who don’t have hiring or casting authority in a New England theater organization as they are often at the lesser end of power imbalances in a rehearsal room. At StageSource we know many people in the theater community hold multiple job titles, therefore we are asking that you respect the boundaries of this event and only sign up if you are a theater maker without regular casting or hiring authority. This workshop is part of the Line Drawn Initiative.
This Bystander Intervention Workshop is the one for you if you would like to learn the following skills:
· It’s not you, it’s your brain: understanding the physiological stress & adrenaline response
· Managing adrenaline, making choices under stress
· Interruption strategies – direct and indirect options for responding in the moment
· Challenging Conversations—speaking up, challenging abuse of power
· Responding to minimizing and defensiveness
· Strategizing under stress—choosing the responses that best fit your personality and situations
