Join us for this remix on our "If I Knew Then..." Series! In this panel we are gathering artists who are Born & Bred in the New England Area, and CONTINUE to make a living in New England. We have gathered a gold mine of experts in the artistic fields of Playwriting, Acting, and Arts Administration. So let's start mining, shall we? Come together, spill the tea, share, and build on each other's collective career experiences. Collaboration is the name of the game. The goal? Grassroots knowledge or all.

A Moderator DEEN RAWLINS will moderate an exchange with New England Born & Bred Artists KADAHJ BENNETT, RACHEL COGNATA, PAUL DAIGEAULT, KIRSTEN GREENIDGE, and DAVID VALDES followed by an audience Q&A.

DEEN RAWLINS [they/them/theirs] is a queer Black nonbinary Bostonian, who has worked as a teaching artist and facilitator in New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. They are the child of two loving parents, a sibling, a teacher, a partner, sexual health advocate and educator, facilitator, french fry lover, social dancer, and community activist. They get lost in their own mind and in the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke. Deen believes theatre proves we can create just and equitable worlds. Their mission as an artist is to generate art that amplifies the vibrancy, ingenuity, and humanity of Black and Brown queer people by aligning our stories with historical, ongoing, and prophetic depictions of the world we live in. Their work is created for Black and Brown people that cherish intimate portrayals of themselves in art.
KADAHJ BENNETT [he/him/his] is an award-winning actor, educator and performer in the Boston area. Bennett has been a Teaching Artist in the community for the past 6 years with organizations such as Company One Theater, Actors Shakespeare Project and Zumix Inc. Whether creating devised work at the Boston Arts Academy, teaching poetry intensives at East Boston High or instructing STEM infused theater with Boston University, Kadahj has a passion for sparking the minds of artist scholars. Bennett is a Luminary Artist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and an Artist in Residence with the Freshman Arts Program at Harvard University. Kadahj works on stage, screen, in galleries and classrooms alike. Bennett is the recipient of two Elliot Norton awards for his work in and on the world premier of HYPE MAN: A Break Beat Play (actor/musical director) and received the David Wheeler Award for emerging talent in theater. Kadahj is also a poet, storyteller and musician, often commissioned for performance or workshops around the community. As frontman and writer for the Downbeat Keys, a brooklyn-based neon soul collective, Kadahj has toured SXSW, the east coast college circuit and shared a bill with Bon Jovi at the Best Buy Center in Times Square. His current Boston based Berklee band, Dancelujah, brings electronic hip hop soul to the city's music scene. A graduate of the Boston Arts Academy and recipient the Posse scholarship to Hamilton College, Kadahj is a self identified black nerd looking to cultivate more young creators of color to tell their stories. Recent credits include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Huntington Theater), This Place Displaced (Artist Theater of Boston), With Glittering Eyes (Hibernian Hall) Hypeman, Peerless, The T Party, An Octoroon, Dry Land, How We Got On (Company One), Akeelah and the Bee (Wheelock Family Theatre) and a feature in The Halls web series (Beyond Measure Productions). Bennett is excited for his role in PassOver with SpeakEasy Stage.
RACHEL COGNATA [she/her/hers] is a New England Born Actress. Her credits include Greater Good, Hype Man (2018 Elliot Norton Award winner) and Really (Company One Theatre); Cardboard Piano (New Repertory Theatre); The Book Club Play (Boston Playwrights Theatre). A graduate of both the Boston Arts Academy and Tufts University, Rachel is from and resides in the Boston area.PAUL DAIGNEAULT [he/him/his] is Producing Artistic Director at SpeakEasy Stage Company. He was the recipient of the 2014 Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence presented by the Boston Theater Critics Association. Since founding SpeakEasy in 1992, he has produced over 100 Boston premieres. She is a recipient of an NEA/TCG residency at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company,and was playwright-in-residence at Company One Theatre. She has also received Sundance’s Time Warner Award for Bossa Nova. Ms. Greenidge attended Wesleyan University and the University of Iowa’s Playwrights Workshop. DAVID VALDES [he/him/his] (Up the Ladder, Down the Slide) is the author of plays staged across the US and abroad, including the 2018 Rolling World Premiere of The Mermaid Hour. His 2019-2020 season includes Wandaleria (Rochester Rep), Last Catastrophist (Fresh Ink Theatre and Transformation Theatre), and Mermaid Hour: ReMixed (Boston Conservatory). He is collaborating with Company One on Downtown Crossing, based on interviews with undocumented immigrants in Boston. He has worked with Huntington Theatre Company, IATI/Cimientos, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company, and The Theater Offensive, with plays appearing in the Humana Festival, Portland Stage Little Festival of the Unexpected, and New York Theatre Workshop Thursday Studio. As a gay Cuban-American, he’s thrilled to bring intersectional stories to the stage, including Up the Ladder, Down the Slide, a 2019 Eugene O’Neill Finalist which be featured in Orlando Shakes Playfest in November.
