Join StageSource and Ireon Roach for a re-grounding and guided meditation for BIPOC artists. Inspired by the writing of Alexis Pauline Gumbs' Dub and other Afro-Caribbean feminist textthis session will offer emotional, physical, literal language to reground your instrument in its deserved ceremony.

Some levity has been lost in our moving through a world where social myths build realities. In this session, we will assess the weight we've come to know and challenge ourselves to acknowledge, explore, and reimagine those tensions anew. To convene, you might want to build or find a space in which you feel comfortable to explore breath and voice, with enough access to the ground/floor and drinking water nearby. We are tasking our body-mind instrument to listen more deeply to ourselves and communities as a way of relearning, recharging, and enacting self ceremony.

There are no expectations for this guided workshop. If you are unable to turn your camera on, your presence will be felt and accounted for. Folks are encouraged to come as they are and take what they need as this was built with the intention of uncovering your own language of re-grounding.

"We are not Homo sapiens, we are Homo narrans; not the ones who know, but the ones who tell ourselves that we know...therefore we have the capacity to know differently. We can make ourselves anew." -Alexis Pauline Gumbs

We, here at StageSource, hope that you will acknowledge and respect that this workshop is intended as a community space of healing and regrounding specifically for BIPOC artists. If you are unsure if this workshop is for you, please reach out to Executive Director Dawn Simmons at

Please register by 6:15pm, September 27th. Self Ceremony is Pay What You Can ($0, $5, $10, or $20). The Zoom room will be closed for entry at 7:15pm.

At StageSource we strive to host accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully.  We understand that at this time there are huge inequities that go along with virtual programming. StageSource wants to aid in decreasing that gap as much as we are able -- to request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact
