Member of the Week: Sloth Levine
Tuesday, October 16, 2018
This week, StageSource is introducing our very first Member of the Week! This is a place where we can give spotlight to a StageSource member who is doing something, new, interesting, or noteworthy in the New England theatre community.
Our first Member of the Week, Sloth Levine (they/them) is a local director, playwright, and designer whose work focuses on queer storytelling, diverse collaboration and heightened realities that showcase the supernatural, fantastic, and surreal.
Sloth is a key member of StageSource’s Gender Explosion Initiative, advocating for transgender and non-binary theatre makers. They have been published on HowlRound and American Theatre on gender diversity onstage and in theatrical criticism.
They’ve worked alongside SpeakEasy, Company One, Fresh Ink, Lyric Stage, and Brown Box Theatre Project. You can find a selection of their playwriting work on New Play Exchange.
This Halloween you can find Sloth writing and directing a one-night-only adaptation of Nosferatu, The Vampyr—a combination of shadow puppetry, drag, lip sync, live music & projection to reexamine what has changed about love, gender, and desire since Bram Stoker first wrote Dracula and F.W. Murnau first adapted the story to film.
Want to nominate a future member of the week? Fill out the form here and nominate someone, YOU think deserves a little time in the spotlight!
