David E. Shane (he/him/his) is completing his time as StageSource's Program Director and will soon return to New York City where he will begin his new position as Membership Manager for A.R.T./New York.
He has been a member of the professional theater community for over ten years, first as an actor then as a director and arts administrator. He moved to Boston from Upstate New York where he spent over four years as the Associate Artistic Director of the Bristol Valley Theater. During his tenure, he lead the company's marketing and development efforts and oversaw the funding and launch of the BVT New Works Initiative.
Among his directing credits are numerous World Premieres including the Off-Broadway production of "Mare in the Men's Room" by David L. Kimple. David is a frequent guest artist at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell where he has worked with faculty and students to both commission playwrights and devise original work.
"This is a bittersweet moment for me. The New England Theatre Community has been more welcoming than I could have imagined. I've met and collaborated with thoughtful, driven people who have proved themselves not only to be top-notch artists, but passionate advocates as well. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such an admired institution. My thanks to the Board of Directors, to John Meredith, and especially to the two fearless leaders I have had the honor of working alongside during the past year. Julie Hennrikus and Dawn M. Simmons are forces of nature, without whom StageSource would not be what it is today. Know that I will be singing their praises, and the praises of this entire theatrical community far and wide!"
