Jo Michael Rezes (they/them/their) is a Boston-based director, performer, and educator. Jo is a current Ph.D. student in Theatre and Performance Studies at Tufts University. Their current research centers ethnographic explorations of queer time ruptures in performance spaces, disintegration of the body in camp theatre, Theatre of Cruelty, Epic Theatre, and 20th century performance praxis. Jo hopes to work closely with StageSource's Gender Explosion Initiative to combine their artistic interests with the advocacy and change they want to see for trans* and non-binary theatremakers in New England.
Recent directing credits include The Importance of Being Earnest: a queer adaptation (The Experimental Theatre at Vassar College), Melancholy Play: a chamber musical (Powerhouse Theatre), School (Boston Theatre Marathon), and Cloud 9 (AD, Nora Theatre Company).
Selected acting credits include Entropy Theatre Company’s a grimm thing (Boston Center for the Arts) and a touring production of The Rocky Horror Show (Prescott Park Arts Festival) where Jo had the irreverent joy of playing the ultimate "sweet transvestite" as Frank N. Furter this past summer. Jo is excited to continue working with the lovely team at Entropy Theatre as the dramaturg on their upcoming Fall 2019 production of Jen Silverman's The Moors!
