MJ Halberstadt (he/him/his) is the playwright of Deal Me Out (Boston Playwrights’ Theatre), The Launch Prize (Elliot Norton Award, Bridge Repertory Theater), The Usual Unusual (SpeakEasy Stage’s Boston Project Commission 2019 & 2020), and additional immersive and stage works involving some intersection of Antarctica, community, privilege, and queerness. Upcoming: a staged reading of My Grandson the Power Bottom at Massasoit Community College in May, and a workshop reading of his opera Grindr(and other concerns) (composer Marc Hoffeditz) at Chelsea Theatre Works in June.
He teaches playwriting and screenwriting at Northeastern University, Emerson College, and others. He is an alumnus of the Huntington Playwriting Fellowship, Boston University (MFA 2012), and Emerson College (BA 2010) member of the Dramatists Guild of America, Inc.; and a devoted knitter.
