AATABAsian American Theatre Artists of Boston (AATAB) is a social collective that empowers and connects Asian American, Pacific Islander American, MENA American, and Kanaka Maoli theatre artists in Greater Boston Area. It was co-founded by Sarah Shin and Michael Rosegrant in September 2018 while students Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre with the goal of finding mentors that looked like them beyond the classroom, and expanding a sense of community that existed within the Asian American students in the School of Theatre with other students and artists in the area. AATAB has previously collaborated with theatres and orgs like Company One Theater, American Repertory Theater, Pao Arts Center, API Arts Network, Asian American Playwrights Collective, Boston Asian American Film Festival, Merrimack Repertory Theater, Speakeasy Stage, and Central Square Theater to host pre- and post-show events that amplify Asian stories and voices. We hope our collective can grow to support both individual artists and theatre organizations by acting as connectors, consultants, and facilitators.

Most recently, AATAB has been producing a virtual play reading series titled AATAB Online, featuring and focusing on the work and talents of Boston-based and Boston-trained artists. Each reading seeks to amplify different organizations that we can support during this time, including the Okra Project, The Navajo & Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund, and Families for Justice As Healing. The final reading, A Language of Their Own by Chay Yew, took place on August 5th on Zoom, HowlRound, and Facebook Live.

Please like our Facebook Page and follow us on Instagram to stay up to date on upcoming events, resources, and opportunities. Artists that are Asian American, Pacific Islander American, MENA American, and Kanaka Maoli are invited to join our Facebook group, where we share even more resources, ideas, support, and space to digitally connect. Stay tuned for some exciting collabs we're working on in the near future! And as always, our DMs are open if you have a project or idea that you think we can support.
