This is a work in progress and will be updated periodically with new links to submissions, as well as more general resources and advice articles on how to make your way as a playwright.

American Association of Community Theatre
A wide range of submission opportunities from all over the country and including all genres. Updated regularly.

Burry Man Writers Center
This Australian-founded, worldwide community of writers has a substantial list of international markets and submission opportunities for contests, as well as links to theaters around the world which consistently produce new works. 

En Avant Playwrights
This playwright-run online community features postings for a huge range of opportunities, from 10-minute festivals to grants for musical theater, as well as chat forums and advice areas. Updated as info becomes available.

Insights for Playwrights

This membership-based service ($35 annually) delivers a monthly e-newsletter with 16 pages of submission opportunities, another of the most comprehensive lists available. Home page offers a sample listing to provide an idea of what you'll get as a member. 

NYC Playwrights
A New York City-based collaborative who produce weekly readings, this group also lists submission opportunities on their homepage. Not the most comprehensive, this list sometimes also includes announcements without playwright focus, but is updated regularly with a wide range of opportunities.

The Playwrights' Center
This Minneapolis-based company delivers classes, workshops, and readings to their members as well as one of the most comprehensive listings of submissions available online.

Playwriting Opportunities for the E-Merging Writer
A site with submission opportunities listed by deadline, along with an ample list of ongoing opportunities.

Stageplays Forum
Chatroom-style forum with writing suggestions, articles and discussion forums with other writers. Free membership also gives access to regularly updated opportunities listed here.


Links to Boston-area Playwriting Groups and Resources 

New England New Play Alliance
This StageSource based alliance focuses on the issues surrounding playwrights in the Boston and New England area. This group meets regularly to discuss these issues and promote works in the area. The NPA newsletter announces current and upcoming events and provides ticket giveaways!


Boston Playwrights' Network
Online community focused on discussion and networking for Boston dramatists. Features discussion areas and a regular e-newsletter of updates as well as a page of other valuable links, both local and national.

Boston Playwrights' Theatre
The home of BU's Graduate Playwriting Program, BPT offers a number of other opportunities to local playwrights, including the Boston Theater Marathon and offering their space rent-free to productions of new plays.

New Opera & Musical Theater Initiative (NOMTI)
Advanced Writers Lab
The Advanced Writers Lab is a peer feedback group open to experienced bookwriters, composers and lyricists working actively on a musical theater project. Our mission is to support each other in creating high-quality new works.  

Playwrights' Platform
This Boston-based cooperative holds twice-monthly meetings, each of which feature readings and discussions of work by member-playwrights. The company also produces an annual festival of new plays and offers other great opportunities to their members. New folk welcome!

The Dramatists Sourcebook at StageSource
Published by Theatre Communications Group (TCG) this is simply the best print resource guide for today's working playwright. With listings of every submission opportunity in the U.S. (cross-referenced and indexed by genre and special interests), lists and advice for grants and residency programs, and tips from none other than Tony Kushner, The Sourcebook is the one-stop-shop for everything you ever wanted to know about getting your play out there. StageSource has the 23rd and 24th editions (the two most recent) in our library -- available during office hours for any members to peruse. Or you can buy it here.

Links to online community forums which are playwright-centric.

Each have chat rooms and posting boards for discussions, script exchanges, and submission opportunities. As with any free online community, how valuable these forums are really depends on what you're hoping to get from them.
